Inviting Mental Health Clinics

This Health Clinic Resembles an Open-Concept Library

Located in the heart of Saga, Japan, this mental health clinic resembles a modern and inviting home more than it does a sterile healthcare space. The contemporary structure is linear and enveloped with oversized windows that reveal a stunning view of its surrounding green landscape.

Once inside the mental health clinic's waiting area, users can look outside or have a seat in comfortable chairs while sampling the office's books and magazines -- a collection of reading materials that is displayed along a vast wall that doubles as the clinic's focal point.

Designed by Yamazaki Kentaro Design Workshop, this space opposes a traditional design aesthetic that is synonymous with most healthcare environments and replaces sterile elements with ones that are more inviting. With mental health issues still being a taboo topic for many around the globe, this cozy and contemporary space makes patients more comfortable when seeking help from a medical professional.
