Matija Cop Creates Beautiful Pieces that Defy Gravity

If you only take one new designer name away this year, make sure it’s Matija Cop – this impressively talented Croatian name might only be a student, but his Object 12-1 collection demonstrates a level of creativity well beyond his years. Taking reference points from historical architecture, complex womenswear pieces were out of an unusual modern texture with stone-esque qualities, using methods like laser-cutting and ‘plug and feather’ over a period of three months to produce the end product. The result is ornate, beautiful yet strong, as sculpted dresses defy gravity and innovative ‘cape suits’ make an impact. Colors are kept simple in tones of dove, storm cloud and aqua, keeping our focus firmly on the texture and shape. Picture perfect.
