Female Astronaut Fashion

The Marc by Marc Jacobs Resort 2015 Collection is Futuristic

At first glance, the Marc by Marc Jacobs Resort 2015 collection may be a futuristic take on workwear for women. The initially androgynous looks are full of asymmetrical overalls, crisp white shirts and everything in between. In reality, however, the fashion designs were inspired by the Mercury 13 group of women who were trained to become astronauts only to have the program cancelled. Designer Luella Bartley states, "They were competent women who were put back into the kitchen."

Yet there are a lot of feminine details present throughout the Marc by Marc Jacobs Resort 2015 collection as well. For instance, in addition to the rather minimalist palette, there are some bold floral patterns. Not to mention 50s-styled dresses.
