Male-Taxing Pharmacies

Thompson Chemists is Levying a Man Tax to Make Up For Gender Inequality

In an effort to remedy the wage gap between men and women, this New York pharmacy implemented a man tax. Located in the Soho area of NYC, Thompson Chemists is charging men an extra 7% in tax to protest inequality of the sexes. This move is considerably timely given the conversation surrounding sexism and gender equality following the results of the recent 2016 presidential election.

For an undetermined amount of time, women can shop at Thompson Chemists tax-free, while male customers will be subjected to a man tax. Pharmacy owner Jolie Alony is opposed to women having to pay more for items (7% more) than similar items marketed to men. Similarly minded business owners have offered women a discount on goods to reflect the imbalance of their pay.
