Climate-Controlled Cities

Mall of the World Plans to be the First Indoor City

Property developer Dubai Holding has conceived of a plan for 'Mall of the World,' the world's first climate-controlled indoor city. The 450-hectare resort will feature a retractable glass roof, a theater district and indoor theme park. The developers hope it will attract up to 180 million visitors per year.

The mall will be located in the center of the resort, designed as a seven-kilometer-long street. The aforementioned glass roof will cover the facilities during the summer, when temperatures can reach upward of 50 degrees Celsius.

Speaking at the project's launch, Dubai president Mohammed Bin Rashid explains, "We plan to transform Dubai into a cultural, tourist and economic hub for the two billion people living in the region around us. And we are determined to achieve our vision."
