Bendable E-Book Readers

The LG Plastic E-Paper Display Makes Digital Novels More Drop-Proof

The LG Plastic E-Paper Display will make reading books electronically a little bit more organic and a lot more drop-proof.

The six-inch XGA resolution screen is only 0.027 inches thick and weighs a mere 0.49 ounces. To put that into perspective -- that's half the weight and 2/3 the thickness of traditional glass screens.

Intended to eventually replace traditional glass display screens for ebook readers, the ultra flexible display can bend as much as 40 degrees from the center, according to LG. It has also been tested to withstand repeated beatings from a urethane hammer and multiple drops from a height of about five feet.

It is allegedly the first plastic screen of its kind in production and will be available for purchase in Europe this month.

The LG Plastic E-Paper Display closely mimics the look and feel of reading a traditional newspaper or novel and will be a saving grace for clumsy digital readers with butterfingers.
