The Landfillart Project Turns Old Hubcaps Into Beautiful Works of Art

Ken Marquis is an eco-friendly artist and the man behind the hubcap reclamation project known as the Landfillart Project. The Landfillart Project aims to restore old hubcaps to be used specifically as canvases.

Marquis first got the idea for the Landfillart Project after attending an auto show where 41 rusted hubcaps were on display. Marquis purchased 41 hubcaps and recruited 20 fellow artists to help him kickoff the project. Eventually he purchased 1,000 more hubcaps and began scouring the Internet to find foreign artists to contribute to the project. To date, artists from all 50 states and from 52 countries have signed on to participate in the project. The results so far are stunning, as everyone from professional artists to prison inmates have used their creative vision to turn rusted pieces of metal into wonderful works of art. Marquis hopes to have all 1,041 hubcap canvases completed by 2012. You can check out a few of the early entrants into the Landfillart Project here.
