Knitted Disco

the knit parade

Artist Beki Rymsza created a knitted disco in east London art gallery space The Great Eastern Bear.
With the walls and dancefloor made entirely from wool, Beki’s disco dancers in the installation are also sporting jumpers with song title themes.
Whilst the rest of London might have been in full Fashion Week swing, the knitted disco was a Boogie Wonderland of garishly retro warm fuzzy stuff...
Beki’s book ‘The Knit Parade’ explains how to make them - for those feeling creative - and jumper inspiration comes from the likes of Madonna, The Beatles and Gary Numan.
Beki says of her work ‘Think TOTP circa 1986, we’re knitting a D/I/S/C/O. We’ve been hard at work this week installing knitted walls, a knitted dancefloor and a mountain of mirror tiles.’
The exhibition opened with an actual disco night and retro cocktails provided by Brittains vodka. The knitted disco will exhibit in Manchester also later this year.

Implications - a unique way to promote a book about knitting
