Couture Carpet Carriers

The Kilim Project Uses Old Rugs to Make Fashionable Bags

Featured on the online boutique A Kind of Guise, these beautiful leather and textile bags are part of a collection the designers call the Kilim Project. The bags were created after representatives from the company made a trip to the middle east two years ago and brought back used carpets from several countries in the region.

Hand-knitting and re-purposing the carpets, some of which date as far back as the 19th century, as couture carriers, the company has created a limited edition of 100 bags fashioned out of over 50 different carpets. The bags feature leather details and colors and patterns that are unique and traditional of the countries where the carpets were purchased. All of these bags are one-of-a-kind and handmade in the shop's studio. So if you're looking for a truly couture bag, with culture and history, then a piece from the Kilim Project may be just what you need.
