With the backing of the world's most influential entrepreneurs, including Facebook's Eduardo Saverin, Google's Zain Khan and Amazon exec Mark Britto, the success of web developer Jumio isn't a matter of "if," but of "when."
The announcement and unveiling of 'Netswipe,' Jumio's first consumer solution, has already placed the company into the limelight. Netswipe is a new software that converts essentially any webcam into a credit card reader. Whether you're trying to buy groceries, pick up clothes online or renew your World of Warcraft subscription, it'll only take a few seconds as you raise your credit card toward a webcam.
Jumio is rolling out three formats of Netswipe: two for consumers and one which allows retailers to securely process payments made online and via smartphones. This may not be the first card-reading program, but it certainly is the most versatile and enjoys the most support, for now.
