Jeppe Hein Turns Normal Benches into Frolicsome Seating

Situated along the coast in De Haan Wenduine, Belgium, these playful benches by Jeppe Hein is a collection of deformed benches.

Titled 'Modified Social Benches L-U', these eye-catching benches are not the average ones. This Danish artist created a frolicsome interpretation of benches, transforming it into oddly shaped structures that's perfect for photos. These public seats are sloped and separated in different forms, some with an empty space in between and others in the shape of a staircase. It's not your typical rest stop but Jeppe Hein cleverly twists these seats to showcase different ways of sitting. It's meant to evoke people with an unexpected reaction from an expected object.

The lightning shaped benches allow users to recline in a 'V' shaped position, making it more intimate for the sitters. Another interesting piece is a coiling piece of wood that pokes out of the bench. Photo Credits: designboom, jeppehein.net
