Interactive Topographic Sandpits

Tellart's Interactive Sandbox Installation Engages the Public

An interactive sandbox installation by design agency Tellart allows the public to "play God." The Terraform Table is a topographic experience that harnesses machine-learning algorithms to accurately respond to changes in its surface. The project displays an aerial view of landscapes and water bodies such as rivers and lakes.

The superimposed "relief map projection" responds to the gestures of the public. For example, if someone begins pailing sand in one space, the topographic interactive sandbox installation will eventually project a white cap of snow.

The data that is drawn for this project is, in fact, gathered from "a database of satellite imagery on Earth." This not only allows for an arty interactive experience but it also infuses some truth value into the project.
