Sustainable Swedish Meatballs

IKEA Meatballs Will Now be Meatless to Reduce Their Carbon Footprint

In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, IKEA meatballs will now be made without meat. As their current Swedish meatball recipe calls for pork and beef, the ready-to-assemble furniture store is preparing to offer vegetarian and chicken options. As both beef and pork products contribute to climate change, IKEA is hoping to lower its carbon footprint.

While the food served and sold by IKEA is responsible for 600,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year, that only accounts for 2% of the company's total carbon contribution. Moving away from just IKEA meatballs, the company will be shifting towards more sustainable practices as a whole. This includes everything from LED light bulbs to solar panels and wind energy.
