Peculiar Self-Portraiture

Iiu Susiraja Challenges Typical Femininity in her Self-Portraits

Iiu Susiraja is a self-portrait artist who embraces the "abnormal," so whole-heartedly, she goes as far as to suggest that it may even be normal.

The Finland-based artist, who is completing an MA in Fine Arts, is currently showcasing her work in the Potretti exhibition at the Frankfurt Fotografie Forum -- and my, what work it is. Whether she's lodging a broom under breasts in 'Good Behavior' or settling her tummy fat on top of a tray in 'Self-Service,' Susiraja consistently challenges cultural notions of femininity, and does so in a way that far surpasses the typical approach of self-portraiture.

Though bizarre, each of Susiraja's photographs are amusing. More importantly, they'll make you think twice about what you've always accepted to be true, adding another layer of dimension to our current conception of reality.
