The city of Edmonton in western Canada has a unique Ice Castle that stands tall and proud among others erected by the Utah-based entertainment and design company of the same name.
This particular Ice Castle comprises as many as 113,398 tonnes of ice, some of which is in the form of over 100,000 icicles. The icicles are developed on site by sprinkling water on top of a series of metal racks. Once the icicles are big enough, they are detached by hand before being arranged in a lattice shape, held together by slush. A second sprinkler then sprays water over the formation to create an added layer of ice.
Edmonton's Ice Castle is truly a winter spectacle of note and is a design triumph in addition to being a worthy source of entertainment for locals in the cold Albertan winter.
