Alexander Melamid's Rap Portraits

Russian-born painter Alexander Melamid took 12 Hip Hop movers and shakers (rappers, producers, designers) as his subject. These muses included Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Common, Kanye West, Reverend Run, Duke, Lil Jon, Don "Magic" Juan, Whoo Kid, Marc Ecko and Russell Simmons. Each was painted as a life-size portrait.

The exhibit, called "Holy Hip Hop," was shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit from February to April 2008. Right now the show is being featured at the Forum Gallery in Los Angeles until November 1 2008.
