The Hippokamp Chair Was Inspired by a Mythological Sea Horse

Inspired by the Greek mythological creature, the Hippokamp chair looks more like a musical instrument than it does a piece of furniture. Intentionally similar in name, the 'Hippocamp' is a mythological sea horse with an iconic shape that this chair aims to reiterate, in a purely abstract way.

Hippokamp was built using "laminated birch veneer individually oiled and waxed, and approx 85 meters polyester line." The curved back and foot rest are held together using a series of tightly strung cords, helping the chair appear as a delicate harp. The chair's almost impossible shape is sure to receive a second glance from visitors, who may question whether or not the design can support their weight. Designed by Peter Qvist Lorentsen, this imaginative chair offers an enticing place to relax.
