BIG Proposes a Public Park for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway

Bjarke Ingels Group — or BIG for short, proposes a sizable highway park for the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood in New York City. The development will cover a part of a subterranean roadway and it will surely be beneficial to the public as it will offer them a total of 538,195 square feet of greenery.

The highway park is proposed as the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway is in "dire need of replacement." Hence, BIG takes this opportunity to add more recreational areas in the city which will ultimately boost morale. In addition, the proposal is rooted in history as well. With the highway park, Bjarke Ingels Group wanted to bring back a time when "city and river interlaced seamlessly, prior to construction of the highway."

With this proposal, BIG looks toward the multi-function of spaces.
