The Spine Center's Graphic Notes the Impact of High Heel Damage

This Spine Center infographic details that high heel damage has long-term effects on the wearer's whole body, not just the feet.

As the graphic points out, 72% of women wear high heels at some point, whether it's for a special night out, or every day to work. However, high heels cause the hip, back and calf muscles to tense, which can lead to cramping and fatigue. As well, several other body parts are put out of alignment, including the chest and spine. The Spine Center notes that over time, wearing high heels enough can actually change your anatomy.

If you're not totally ready to trade in your heels yet, The Spine Center advises against wearing shoes for long periods of time and varying your footwear choices on a daily basis.
