Haptic Gaming Gloves

This Haptic Glove Lets Gamers Feel Virtual Objects

The Hands Omni is a haptic glove, developed by a team of engineering students at Rice University, that is capable of making the wearer 'feel' virtual objects and environments as if they're actually present there.

The glove can be hooked up to a video game so that when you grab an object in the game, you actually feel its touch. It doesn't require external wires or cables, and provides haptic feedback through bladders in the fingertips that expand and contract to offer the sense that you're touching or holding an object.

While virtual reality has moved from science-fiction to promising reality in recent years, one area in which virtual reality is lacking is the ability to feel tactile sensations in virtual environments. This haptic glove therefore offers much promise, particularly in the gaming industry.
