Burger King's Green Packaging Pilot Program Rethinks the Most-Used Items

With its Green Packaging Pilot Program, Burger King is reimagining its most-used items like utensils, straws, drink lids, Frypods, Whopper wrappers and napkins. The sustainable packaging initiative is designed to reduce the fast food chain's environmental footprint and it has the potential to reduce greenhouse gases.

As part of this program, Burger King is incorporating materials like renewable unbleached virgin paperboard, plant-based plastic and 100% recycled fiber for napkins. Burger King will also be trialing plant-based straws and strawless lids and it says this could "potentially eliminate up to 500 million single-use plastic straws annually from participating U.S. Burger King® restaurants. This action alone would translate to the removal of 910 metric tons of greenhouse gasses per year, the equivalent of 196 vehicles driven for one year."
