Dual Generation Furniture

Satoshi Itasaka's Grandmother's Chair Slowly Disappears

Although the Grandmother's Chair seems to be disappearing right before the viewer's eyes, it is actually a piece of furniture that has been inspired by two very different eras. As one generation blends into the other, the design slowly turns from a dark shade to a white hue.

Designed by Satoshi Itasaka of h211010, a design studio based in Tokyo and co-founded with Takuto Usami, the Grandmother's Chair is half wood and half glass. It may be obvious to some, but the wooden portion represents the grandmother generation. Saddened that many old pieces of furniture is ignored, Itasaka created the Grandmother's Chair using a discarded chair and revitalized it not only by adding the translucent side, but also by fixing its broken leg.
