The GM Front Center Airbag is a Lifesaving Device

Drivers may have a new reason to buy American thanks to the new GM front center airbag. The engineers at General Motors have created what is being touted as the industry's first front center airbag, a safety device designed to protect a driver on the opposite side of a t-bone collision.

The front center airbag is designed to work in conjunction with the side curtain airbag that is deployed from the driver's window during a crash. According to GM, far-side impact crashes account for 11% of all automotive fatalities for belted drivers. This new airbag may not sound like much, but the video and the photos here clearly show what a huge difference it could make. The GM front center airbag will be installed in the 2013 editions of the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Chevrolet Traverse.
