Glitzy Gay Rights Protests

Code Pink Activists Glitter Bomb Tim Pawlenty

Tim Pawlenty , a U.S. Republican presidential hopeful, was in San Francisco conducting a book signing for his memoir, Courage to Stand, when activists dazzled him with a twinkling pink glitter bomb and demanded that he take a courageous stand for LGBT and reproductive rights.

The feather-laden pink glitter-bomb was delivered from a plain manila envelope by activists Nancy Mancias and Chelsea Byers from the women's peace group Code Pink. According to the Code Pink website, they "took inspiration from Nick Espinosa, who ‘glittered’ Newt Gingrich at a conference in Minneapolis."

One of the glitter-wielding activists yelled as she was escorted away by San Francisco police, "Where's your courage to stand for gay rights and women's reproductive rights, Tim Pawlenty? Welcome to San Francisco. Home of gay hero Harvey Milk!"
