Rural Refrigerators

Bilberto Tethere Develops a Zero-Energy Fridge Made Out of Bamboo and Clay

Gilberto Tethere's ZEFRA (Zero Emission Fridge for Rural Africa) may revolutionize how people in rough and rural parts of the world store their food. This fridge uses zero energy, yet it keeps food cold and safe from pests.

Gilberto Tethere's design is incredibly simple. He weaves a bamboo body for the fridge and covers it with clay. The fridge has two openings for inserting and dispensing food. I never realized how much of a luxury a refrigerator really was. Hopefully Gilberto Tethere's design can make it to the rural masses soon.
