Robert Nightingale's Solution to Gas Prices

Designer Robert Nightingale combats skyrocketing gas prices and turns hitchhiking into an adventurous and thrilling ride with his Hitch concept design in the 2008 Fiat Design Competition "Smiles From A to B".

Keeping in mind that the competition encourages design submissions that "create maximum smiles," Nightingale has come up with a belt that features three vacuum suction cups. The suction is supposedly strong enough to keep you attached to a car, van, train, or whatever you decide to ride.  Best of all, gas prices become a thing of the past, because you get to leach off others… ;)

"For best results position yourself at traffic lights, railway stations or air hangers," recommends the designer. "Subtly wait for the opportune moment (which is precisely 7 seconds before the initial point of acceleration) and attach the product as firmly as possible to the host vehicle (a brief run up usually does the trick), paying attention to ground clearance for ones feet and enjoy the ride…"

What could be better than this, with the insane gas prices, you’ll be saving gas money and getting an adrenaline-rush ride for free.
