Ultra-Fast Organic Camera Sensors

Fujifilm Japan Unveiled a Faster and Less Expensive Sensor

Fujifilm Japan recently announced that it will release a new organic sensor that's not just faster than anything that the brand has released before, but also more cost effective than previous technology. According to the press release, the new organic CMOS sensor will have a speed of 0.5 MHz, a full digit higher than previous sensor attempts.

Organic CMOS sensors use a layer of photoconductive film on top of a layer of circuits, as compared to traditional sensors that use a silicon photodiode. Experts aver that the two step process of organic sensors leads to more accurate color representation and better performance in low light. Fujifilm Japan claims that its new sensor will thus have a fuller dynamic range as well as enhanced sensitivity that will prevent highlight clipping and capturing richer, darker colors.
