Textile-Woven Batteries

Scientists at Fudan University Have Invented an Amazing Rope-Like Battery

Scientists at Fudan University in Shanghai, China have developed an incredible high-performance Lithium-ion battery crafted out of carbon nanutube fiber yarns.

The batteries, roughly 1 mm in diameter, are claimed to be lightweight enough to allow for the creation of weavable and wearable textile batteries that could be used to power a wide variety of devices. The fiber battery is capable of delivering significant amounts of power, and can even be woven into existing fabrics to create ingenious electronic textiles.

The Fudan University scientists say their long-term goal is to be able to create clothes and blankets that can charge consumer electronic devices such as cellphones.

There could also be significant implications in the area of outdoor energy management, wherein the textile batteries could be woven into tents or sleeping bags to ensure a constant energy source in isolated areas.
