Lean River-Like Buildings

This Fluid Structure Connects Two Buildings on the Grace Farms Reserve

A fluid structure was designed for the Grace Farms Nature Reserve -- the whimsical architecture fitting in perfectly with the natural environment. The long and skinny building acts as a walkway between two public facilities on the 80-acre stretch of preserved land. The ribbon-like pathway designed by SANAA features a serpent-like shape with a delicate roof supported by thin cement columns.

The walkway's overhanging structure simultaneously houses a library, gymnasium and youth center. The architects also transformed an old barn into a functional reception space.

The architecture of the building fits perfectly with the purpose of Grace Farms Nature Reserve. It serves as a place of relaxation, community and a return to nature. The soft fluid structure doesn't take attention away from those things, in fact enhancing the sense of serenity felt at the reserve.
