Rebecca Reeve’s Florida Landscapes Series is All About Loss

Beautifully capturing the feeling of loss of connection and a feeling of detachment from the natural world, photographer Rebecca Reeve snaps images of Florida landscapes in her new idyllic and stunning series.

The New York-based photographer pays homage to a late 19th-century Dutch tradition. The tradition has people who host a wake in their home covering mirrors, landscape paintings and portraits to make it easier to leave the world behind with all its temptations. Reeve adds an interesting twist to the series by portraying Florida landscapes to the mix with long grasses, lily pads and swampy water.

The artist does a great job at capturing the essence of loss, but in this case, it’s the loss of connection with the natural environment that people seem to have lost touch with because of our busy, modern and urban lifestyles.
