Felix Pottinger has Designed a Packaging System for Food

With plastic waste continuing to be a problem in the Earth's oceans, Royal College of Art graduate Felix Pottinger has designed a packaging system that makes use of sea life itself in a sustainable way. Specifically, Felix Pottinger's seagrass packaging uses washed up seagrass fiber that is in abundance all along he Mediterranean coast, making the packaging itself completely biodegradable and safe to use on any sort of food.

One of the largest benefits of Pottinger's packaging is that it exclusively uses dead seagrass fibers. This means that the system removes the need for industrially farming seagrass, as it can be harvested easily in the wild.

Beyond the sustainability of such biodegradable packaging, the seagrass packaging also has antibacterial properties that help to keep dry, perishable foods fresh for just as long as plastic packaging.
