The Fathom Mirror by Joe Doucet is a Tribute to Sandy Victims

The Fathom Mirror has been designed in such a way as to encourage people to imagine what it might have been like if they encountered a life-threatening and life-changing natural disaster. A touching tribute to Hurricane Sandy victims in particular, the Fathom Mirror makes it appear as though the onlooker is underwater. The bottom half of it takes on a blue tinge while also adhering to an effect of refraction to make it appear more realistic.

Designed by New York-based designer Joe Doucet, the Fathom Mirror is a one-off creation for the Reclaim NYC auction. Doucet says, "I think most of us felt a strong urge to do something, but without focusing those efforts, the impact made would have most likely not been felt," and so gladly participated in helping out his beloved city.
