This Fast Airplane Concept Travels Quicker and Saves Fuel

Teams from Dutch airline KLM and the Delft University of Technology have collaborated to create the AHEAD aircraft, an energy-efficient and fast airplane.

The AHEAD (Advanced Hybrid Engine Aircraft Development) aircraft is designed with two pairs of wings, one in the front and one in the back. The wings are meant to blend with the body of the plane, creating a smooth, curved look. Not only is this aesthetically pleasing, these modified wings are meant to improve airflow and reduce drag, which ultimately saves fuel. Traditional turbofan engines would be replaced with hybrid engines and would sit at the back of the aircraft rather than under the wings.

The AHEAD aircraft is a long-term case study and if implemented, it would be slated for release in 2050.
