Motorsport Race Car Redesigns

Mercedes Has Redesigned Its F1 Cars in Honor of Its Racing History

Mercedes has redesigned its F1 cars in a way that celebrates the brand's motorsports history, which was done in order to celebrate Mercedes' 125th year in motor racing. The first Mercedes vehicle to compete in motor racing dates all the way back to 1894, where the band competed in a race from Paris to Rouen.

The design is in honor of a car used in a 1934 race at Nürburgring, where the white paint job had to be scraped off so the car could make the weight limit. This gave the car a silver aesthetic, which resulted in Mercedes eventually embracing the silver design in all of its F1 cars. Now Mercedes race cars are often referred to as "Silver Arrows" due to the silver image of the early cars.
