Extendable Plant Holders

This Expandable Plant Pot Eliminates Replanting and is Origami-Inspired

A new expandable plant pot designed by Bike Ayaskan has eliminated the need to re-pot. The holder can expand over five times its original size while housing the same plant for as long as it lives. Quite a lot of math was necessary for the development of the product. Using a triangle as the basis of their research, Bike Ayaskan's team calculated an equation that would yield a perfect cylindrical shape. The result is a size-altering holder that changes its shape while expanding.

The pots are made from flat sheets of polypropylene, a material that is extremely malleable and features a mesh base that allows water to drain. Large house trees or plants typically need to be re-potted three times but Bike Ayaskan's plant holder eliminates the step. Designers hope to expand this product range to include different colored pots.
