Coop's Essento Insect Burgers Feature a Nutritional Mealworm Base

As its name suggests, the Essento Insect Burgers are filled with creepy crawlies that pack a nutritious punch for those brave enough to eat them. Brought to the market by Coop, these burgers will be Switzerland's first to include Essento’s insect products -- recipes the company has been perfecting for two years.

The burgers also contain rice, leek, celery and spices, which complement the protein-providing mealworm. According to the company, insects like mealworms have a high culinary potential with impressive nutritional and flavorful profiles. From an environmental perspective, insects are highly beneficial, producing less greenhouse gasses and naturally contain essential vitamins and minerals including zinc, potassium, calcium and iron.

If the nutritional and environmental benefits aren't enough to sway the beef-loving public to step outside of their comfort zones, the burger's dynamic flavoring will.
