Literary Childhood Paintings

The 'Errata Corrige' Collection Consumes Books with Paintings

Using books as a canvas, artist Ekaterina Panikanova set out to create jigsaw puzzles of childhood memories in 'Errata Corrige.' Panikanova painted over volumes of books with black in order to create realistic and darkly surreal paintings.

What makes this installation interesting is its extremely dynamic and erratic nature. In some paintings, each book is allowed to flow freely with the pages allowed to flutter. The addition of unbound pages adds an amazing dimension to Errata Corrige that accentuates the beautiful illustrations.

The chaotic and unpredictable nature of Pnikanova's installation was created to explore themes of mental illness. According to the artist, she wanted to "investigate and highlight the element of mental disorder that I've carried with me all my life."
