Eco Student Competitions

This Green Initiative Offers Local Businesses a Free Energy Saving Audit

Power to Save is a state-wide competition in Washington DC where young people offer a free energy saving audit to small businesses. From non-profit Green Impact Campaign, the Power to Save initiative helps train students to give energy saving audits. Student teams from five local universities compete to see who can offer more audits and help small companies save on their energy costs.

Partnerships with organizations Think Local First and Nextility make the month-long community-ameliorating competition possible. Using the cloud-based Green Energy Management System, participating students gain experience by performing 30 minute audits and making customized action plans that show brands where and how to make savings and lower their carbon footprint. It's shown that inexpensive energy efficient upgrades can result in 15-20% savings -- the equivalent of more than 2 million kWh.
