Eliminating Vending Machines

Ikoma, Japan to Toss Machines

Vending machines are very inefficient because they run for 24 hours. Japan has 5.4 million vending machines, half of which are for beverages. If all the refrigerated beverage vendors were eliminated, one of Japan's 55 nuclear reactors could be completely shut down.

Ikoma City is taking the green step to eliminate all vending machines in city buildings. Cold drinks will still be available, but in more energy efficient coolers.
