While London is focusing on getting a fleet of electric double decker buses out on the road, Chicago is launching an electric garbage truck. Built by Motiv, the entirely electricity-run truck has a route 60 miles long and will compact about 9 tons of trash daily. The sustainable trash-collecting vehicle is estimated to save 2688 gallons of diesel fuel and $11,000 in maintenance fees every year. So the truck will benefit tax payers in more ways than one.
The only problem with the electric garbage truck, is if it's stationed in your neighborhood you might sleep through garbage day and forget to put your trash out in time when it comes silently rolling along at 5am.
