I’m going to think twice about throwing away my eggshells after seeing Gary LeMaster’s eggshell carvings. The Iowa-based artist creates amazing works of art on the most fragile of surfaces using a variety of tools and techniques.
In case you were wondering, all of these eggshell carvings were done on actual eggs, with LeMaster only working with infertile eggs, eggs that were incubated but did not hatch. The first step in creating an eggshell carving is to drain the egg and sketch out a pattern using a lead pencil. Diamond and carbide cutting tools as well and dental tools powered by a compressor are then used to very carefully carve up the eggs.
