Half-Submerged Portraits

These Images Show Eerie Scenes Below the Surface of Water

Photographer Lara Zankoul created 'The Unseen' series of images that presents surreal and eerie scenes of humans half-submerged in water. Each portrait features one or two people standing or sitting in a pool of water that consumes half of the frame.

The images are shot head-on, which provides the audience with a direct view of what is above the water and what is below the water -- like a fish tank. One image in particular features a set of twins wearing red dresses, linking arms and smiling at each other. However, as the viewer's eye flows down the portrait, the scene presented below the water displays one twin holding a pair of scissors that are pointed at her companion.

All of the photographs are unique and different in their own way but they each highlight similar eerie scenes below the surface of the water.
