Realistic Planetary Desserts

The Earth Structural Layer Cake Was Created for a Grade School Lesson

The Earth Structural Layer Cake is an impressive recreation of the planet, or at least one hemisphere of it. As realistic as an actual globe, it was created to help teach a class of primary school students how the Earth is structured. Although its sugary goodness may distract people from the lesson, it can also provide a good dose of incentive. Since it's cut up to illustrate the stratification of the planet, the kids might as well dig in after the lesson is done.

Baked by Rhiannon of Cake Crumbs for her sister who is a teacher, the Earth Structural Layer Cake was an ambitious undertaking. Although Rhiannon wanted to make it so "accurate a pilot could use it as their navigation system," each country ended up being a lot harder to create than she originally thought.
