3D-Printed Family Portraits

DoubleMe3d Creates Figurine Portraits for Loved Ones

It was about time that the traditional family portrait entered the 21st century; DoubleMe3d, a full-body 3-D scan and print studio in the Netherlands, has made that possible. In place of two dimensional images, DoubleMe3d creates 3D printed figurines that give such portraits new life. Ranging from 10 to 17 centimetres in height, these models are as fun as they are commemorative.

Founded by Dutch couple Manuel and Sabina Groeneweg, DoubleMe3d was essentially the evolution of Sabina's body cast business for pregnant women. Manuel says, "When I learned about the possibilities for making scans and printing just about anyone (not only pregnant women), I realized that she needed to step in because she could broaden her target group and move faster than her competitors."
