Desert water is an elusive resource, yet this concept device suggests a way to accumulate moisture in an efficient fashion in order to sustain life amidst inhospitable conditions. A team of designers from the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts worked on a product that would be lightweight, collapsible and relatively cheap to produce, enabling all sorts of people to benefit from its H2O collection function for clean water that's instantly drinkable.
Campers, budget travelers, nomads and locals could all benefit from this affordable and ingenious idea. In its most compact form, the Water Factory is a pocketable ring, yet its plastic reservoirs can be sprung out from coiled metal frames to create spaces for gas to condense into liquid. The hourglass-shaped contraption is best buried half in the sand and half exposed to the air, making it capable of gathering desert water from every possible source.
This project was a winner of a 2014 Red Dot Design Award.
