Artfully Frozen Abodes

Chris Larson’s ‘Deep North’ is a Chilled Exhibit

Chris Larson’s ‘Deep North’ project stems from a trip the artist took to Switzerland. His experience with a devastating ice storm there changed him forever, and he decided to replicate the effects of the natural phenomenon on his own terms.

Larson built this small home in the woods of Minnesota’s St. Paul region. He then doused it with gallons of water throughout the month of February, bringing about this intense frozen display. The entire process was recorded, providing those who dread the cold with a chance to observe the chilled abode from a distance.

In addition to its establishment of a novel art form, Deep North also gets at issues of global warming with specific attention to the ways in which nature impacts domestic spaces.
