Geometrically Transparent Home Decor

The Dark Side Series Features 3D Printed Angular & Designs

France-based designer Michaël Malapert has created the Dark Side series that features three dimensional printed bowls, plates, vases and candle holders. These 3D bowls and containers were inspired by origami, the traditional Japanese folding art. Using the folded paper forms by origami experts, the geometrical design was deconstructed down to its outline.

"Dark Side creations are inspired by numerical modelling softwares reinterpreting and focusing on origami know how. Only the graphic skeleton of the object is maintained, while the material is reduced to the minimum," explains Malapert on the process of creating these pieces.

The process of 3D printing this collection was thanks to laser sintering, where the powder used for its creation was scattered then fixed using a laser.
