The Chanrio Maker is based off of the Chanrio character, who represents the Sanrio theme park in Tama New Town. In the character creation tool, it's possible to start by generating a face using one of the pre-set templates, or uploading a photo.
The following pages in the custom cartoon creator feature an assortment of clothing and accessories that can be used to adorn the character. Users will notice that some items on the generator are locked with a password—to make them usable, people must visit the theme park to find them.
