Hybrid Instrumental Inventions

Diego Stocco Invents New Instruments in This Custom Built Orchestra

Instruments like the "harpiano" and "expericello" are prime examples of the musical madness that's created in Diego Stocco's custom built orchestra.

Taking inspiration from discarded pieces, Stocco used his imagination to create hybrid instruments. Stocco is a California-based sound designer and composer. With his hybrid instruments, he created an entire multi-track piece to become a legitimate "one man band."

Other hybrid instruments include the "experiviolin," which uses a violin body, an electric guitar neck and acoustic guitar strings. Another is the "arcophonico," which came from a tree branch and has a metallic neck, verticle double bass string, two other cello-like strings and is amplified by two microphones.

Diego Stocco used his custom built orchestra by playing each instrument (sometimes more than once in different ways) and then layering the sounds to create this two-minute piece.
