Corrugated Cardboard Pallets Provide Sustainable Product Portability

Portland, Oregon-based GreenLight Pallet Company manufactures custom pallets. Its patented UNIPAL pallet crating uses green-sourced corrugated cardboard for structural members. The corrugated cardboard pallets are made from recycled materials, are structurally sound, can be used up to forty-five times before recycling, are foodsafe and lightweight, are safer to handle than wood pallets and resist waterlogging.

In order to reduce the company's carbon footprint, GreenLight relocated to a 50,000-square-foot facility Portland from Korea and Spain in May of 2009.

Implications - The GreenLight Pallet Company builds a pallet that is entirely recyclable and designed from high-performance cardboard. The wax alternative is almost fully recyclable and works to repel water. This is the kind of design thinking that is pushing the eco-movement forward.
